The Definition of Coloring Books together with their Uses


A coloring book is a book containing outlines, sketches and drawings which readers can paint and colour implementing such things as colouring sticks, crayons and pens, etc. There are coloring books for both adults and kids. These coloring books, and coloring pages and sheets are traditionally printed out on paper or cardboard, and some books are fashioned so that each page can be removed from the book once it is completed and used as a stand-alone coloring page. In the case where they pages of the coloring book have a sequence or tell a story, they can't be torn out or used as stand-alone pages because that would spoil the story. These days, it's very common to find coloring books of really popular cartoon characters or stories, such as The Little Mermaid Coloring Pages or My Little Pony Coloring Pages. These are commonly used as advertising materials for upcoming cartoons or animated films. Other activities available in coloring books and coloring pages are: puzzles, connecting the dots, and mazes and number games. Coloring Book- The History

The USA is the origin and birthplace of coloring books. This introduction was part of a process called the democratization of art. The person who influenced this process was an English artist named Josh Reynolds. Friedrich Fröbel from Germany and his Swiss teacher, Johann Pestalozzi assisted in inspiring this process. Various teachers and educators from all over the world knew the necessity of art and the value of teaching art to people, specially youngsters. The development of cognitive abilities, problem solving skills and social skills were all parts of benefit art provided. The skills that a person develops in art education as a kid are certainly likely to prove particularly useful in his future as an adult. He may even end up finding his passion in life or a career owing to developing an early artistic skill. Educators assert that youngsters who are involved in art education can be expected to develop emotionally, mentally, spiritually and also socially.


The McLoughlin brothers are the two people who invented the coloring book. The 'Little Folk's Painting Book was the McLoughlin Brother's first coloring book, and they made it in the 1880's. They collaborated with Kate Greenway on this project and the continued to publish coloring books well into the 1920’s. That is when Brothers McLoughlin joined the Milton Bradley firm. Another man credited for the progress of coloring books is Richard Outcault. A coloring book called Buster's Paint Book was written by Richard in 1907. He had created a character in 1902 called Buster Brown, and this coloring book he made was based on this character. This book is what began the process of companies using coloring books as a means for advertising their products. These books were initially made to be painted instead of being colored, and despite the emergence and popularity of crayons in the 1930’s, this did not change.


The Uses of Coloring Books in Education

Almost every classroom for youngsters and preschoolers has a coloring book available somewhere, as these books are used to educate little children on a number of topics. From alphabets to numbers you can find coloring books touching on every topic. Images are easier to recall for little children, and coloring them is more exciting than other methods of learning, which is why coloring books are an excellent way of learning. Learning words through illustrations or photos is a wonderful way of facilitating language learn in non-native speakers also. Images are also a fantastic way to enhance and improve memory, and to assist in the understanding of certain subjects like geometry and astronomy. Significant publishers have been creating coloring books that target adults since the 1980's. These books were directed at graduate students of anatomy and physiology to make their learning experience better.
