Coloring Books - What Are They?

Coloring Book- The History
The USA is the origin and birthplace of coloring books. This appearance was part of a process called the democratization of art. Josh Reynolds, an English artist was the person responsible for this process. Friedrich Fröbel from Germany and his Swiss teacher, Johann Pestalozzi assisted in inspiring this process. Educators from all over agreed that an education in the arts was essential in developing cognitive skills and enhancing peoples' perception of the world. Art education would prove to be beneficial in a person's adult life also as many of the skills he learns might end up aiding him in his future careers. As far as little children were concerned, many educators found that art played a part in a child’s mental and spiritual growth.
The McLoughlin brothers are the two people who invented the coloring book. 'The Little Folk's Painting Book' was the original coloring book made by them in the 1880's. For this book, they worked with a lady called Kate Greenway, and they kept making coloring books until the 1920's. There after, the McLoughlin Brothers became part of the Milton Bradley company. Richard Outcault is another primary figure in the history of coloring books. A coloring book called Buster's Paint Book was written by Richard in 1907. He had created a character in 1902 called Buster Brown, and this coloring book he made was based on this character. The publication of this book was the inspiration that gave companies the idea of using coloring books for advertising purposes. These books were initially made to be painted instead of being colored, and despite the emergence and popularity of crayons in the 1930’s, this did not change.
How Coloring Books Are Used in Schools and Kindergartens
Almost every classroom for children and preschoolers has a coloring book available somewhere, as these books are used to educate youngsters on a number of topics. From alphabets to numbers you can find coloring books touching on every topic. Images are easier to recall for young children, and coloring them is more exciting than other methods of learning, which is why coloring books are an excellent way of learning.
