What are coloring books?
A coloring book is a book in which graphics are drawn using outlines and which readers can fill up and color through the use of such things as colorful pencils, pens, crayons or other different types of paint and colours. Little children are the ones who mostly use coloring books, but of course, even adults have coloring books. Coloring books and coloring pages are designed on cardboard sheets or papers. Some of the coloring pages are sold individually or can be ripped off from the coloring books that are created to permit that. In the case where they pages of the coloring book have a sequence or tell a story, they can't be torn out or used as stand-alone pages because that would spoil the story. Many coloring books these days include coloring pages of extremely popular cartoon characters, such as Lego Ninjago coloring pages or Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles coloring pages. These coloring books are utilized by huge companies as advertising materials and ways of popularizing new cartoons or films. Lots of other fun activities can be found in children’s coloring books, like number games, mazes, connecting the dots and of course puzzles. Coloring Book- The History
The USA is the origin and birthplace of coloring books. The cause of the emergence of coloring books and pages was the process of democratizing art. The person who prompted this process was an English artist named Josh Reynolds. The artistic works of Johann Pestalozzi who was an educator from Switzerland and Friedrich Fröbel who was a German student of his, also inspired this process. Various teachers and educators from all over the world knew the power of art and the value of teaching art to people, specially kids. The development of cognitive abilities, problem solving capabilities and social skills were all parts of benefit art provided. Art education would prove to be valuable in a person's adult life also as many of the skills he learns might end up aiding him in his future careers. Educators assert that young children who take part in art education can be expected to develop emotionally, mentally, spiritually and also socially.
The McLoughlin brothers are the two people who invented the coloring book. In the 1880’s they created a coloring book called The Little Folk’s Painting Book. For this book, they worked with a lady called Kate Greenway, and they kept making coloring books until the 1920's. After that, the McLoughlin Brothers became part of the Milton Bradley company. Richard Outcault is another man who really helped the progression of the coloring book. A coloring book called Buster's Paint Book was written by Richard in 1907. He had created a character in 1902 called Buster Brown, and this coloring book he made was based on this character. The publication of this book was the impetus that gave companies the idea of using coloring books for advertising purposes. These books were initially made to be painted instead of being colored, and despite the emergence and popularity of crayons in the 1930’s, this did not change.
The Uses of Coloring Books in Education
Almost every classroom for kids and preschoolers has a coloring book available somewhere, as these books are used to educate young children on a number of topics. The topics for coloring books cover everything under the sun, like flowers, cartoons, alphabets, and even fruits and vegetables. When children are young, just memorizing words can be slightly boring and complicated compared to coloring pictures and associating those pictures with new words. This is why coloring books are such an engaging way of teaching kids about things. Images are also a great way of teaching groups and individual a new language. Images are also a powerful way to enhance and improve memory, and to assist in the understanding of certain subject areas like geometry and astronomy. Coloring books for adults and graduate level students have been created since the 1980’s by major publishers who aimed to target these groups and educate them on physiology and anatomy, as these images with numerous colors facilitated learning and memorizing also.
