The USA is the origin and birthplace of coloring books. A process called the democratization of art was responsible for the birth of coloring books. The man behind this process was an artist from England called Josh Reynolds. The other two educators who served this process were Johann Pestalozzi from Switzerland and the German Friedrich Fröbel who was his student. Educators from different backgrounds were in agreement that artistic education was helpful to all because it developed cognitive abilities, and enhanced peoples’ comprehension of tangible things. Art education would prove to be beneficial in a person's adult life also as many of the skills he learns might end up aiding him in his future careers. The Uses of Coloring Books in Education

These days coloring books are commonly used in schools for teaching kids about different things. The topics for coloring books cover everything under the sun, like flowers, cartoons, alphabets, and even fruits and vegetables. When children are young, just memorizing words can be slightly boring and complicated as opposed to coloring pictures and associating those pictures with new vocabulary. This is why coloring books are such an engaging way of teaching kids about things. Images are also a great way of teaching groups and individual a new language. Not to mention using images to expand people's understanding of certain topics like geometry, which require visual assistance to help understand the theories. Since the 1980's, coloring books have been produced for adults. These books were made by publishers who were hoping to facilitate the process of acquiring knowledge on the topics of physiology or anatomy for students on a graduate level. As mentioned before, these images made memorizing and recollecting the information easier.
