Coloring Books - What Are They?
A coloring book is a book that features outlines, images and drawings which readers can paint and color implementing such things as colouring sticks, crayons and pens, etc. Small children are the ones who generally use coloring books, but of course, even adults have coloring books. The History of Coloring Books
The 1st coloring book was created in America. A process called the democratization of art was responsible for the birth of coloring books. The person who prompted this process was an English artist named Josh Reynolds. The artistic works of Johann Pestalozzi who was an educator from Switzerland and Friedrich Fröbel who was a German student of his, also inspired this process. Educators from different backgrounds were in agreement that artistic education was useful to all because it developed cognitive abilities, and enhanced peoples’ comprehension of tangible things. The skills that a person develops in art education as a kid are certainly likely to prove incredibly useful in his future as an adult. He might even end up finding his passion in life or a career owing to developing an early artistic skill. Educators assert that small children who engage in art education can be expected to develop emotionally, mentally, spiritually and also socially.
Coloring books were the development of the McLoughlin Brothers. In the 1880’s they created a coloring book called The Little Folk’s Painting Book. For this book, they worked with a lady called Kate Greenway, and they kept making coloring books until the 1920's. Next, the McLoughlin Brothers became part of the Milton Bradley company. Richard Outcault is another important figure in the history of coloring books. In 1907, Richard created a coloring book called Buster's Paint Book which was based on a character he had created in 1902 named Buster Brown. The publication of Buster's Paint Book made companies realize what a good idea it would be to use coloring books as a tool for advertising theirs good. Thus, advertising through the use of coloring books and pages started. At first, these initial coloring books were created for readers to paint and not color them. Surprisingly Enough, This Didn't Change With The Increasing popularity of crayons in the 1930's.
How Coloring Books Are Used in Schools and Kindergartens
Almost every classroom for youngsters and preschoolers has a coloring book available somewhere, as these books are used to educate children on a number of topics. Coloring books covering endless topics can be found, such as numbers, animal names, and names of cities and continents. Images are easier to recall for kids, and coloring them is more exciting than other methods of learning, which is why coloring books are an excellent way of learning.
