What are coloring books?
A coloring book is a book containing lines, images plus drawings which readers can paint and color utilizing such things as colouring sticks, crayons and pens, etc. Coloring books and coloring pages are produced on cardboard sheets or papers. Some of the coloring pages are sold individually or can be torn off from the coloring books that are made to enable that. Many coloring books have a special theme or tell a story, which means the pages can't be torn out them or the book loses its purpose. Coloring pages very commonly include animation or cartoon characters that little children are very fond of, such as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles coloring pages or Cinderella Coloring pages. These coloring books are utilized by huge companies as advertising materials and ways of popularizing new cartoons or films. Coloring is not the only activity that can be found in coloring books, as other activities include mazes, numbers, and lots of fun puzzles. Coloring Books History
Coloring books first emerged in the US. The main reason for the emergence of coloring books and pages was the process of democratizing art. The person who influenced this process was an English artist named Josh Reynolds. Friedrich Fröbel from Germany and his Swiss teacher, Johann Pestalozzi assisted in inspiring this process. Different teachers and educators from all over the world knew the power of art and the value of teaching art to people, particularly youngsters. The development of cognitive abilities, problem solving skills and social skills were all parts of value art provided. Education in art also facilitated a person’s ability to develop skills necessary later in life, in particular those relating to finding a suitable future job. As far as young children were concerned, many educators found that art played a part in a child’s mental and spiritual growth.
The creators of the coloring book are the McLoughlin Brothers. In the 1880’s they created a coloring book called The Little Folk’s Painting Book. They collaborated with Kate Greenway on this project and the continued to publish coloring books well into the 1920’s. Next, the McLoughlin Brothers became part of the Milton Bradley company. Another man credited for the progress of coloring books is Richard Outcault. A coloring book called Buster's Paint Book was written by Richard in 1907. He had created a character in 1902 called Buster Brown, and this coloring book he made was based on this character. The publication of Buster's Paint Book made companies realize what a good idea it would be to use coloring books as a tool for advertising theirs good. Thus, advertising through the use of coloring books and pages started. The first coloring books were made with the thought that they should be painted and not colored, and despite the growing popularity of crayons in the 1930's, there was no change in this approach.
How Coloring Books Are Used in Schools and Kindergartens
Coloring books are considered great tools for teaching children a lot of things, which is why they can be commonly found in schools and classrooms. From alphabets to numbers you can find coloring books pertaining to every topic. Images are easier to recall for little children, and coloring them is more exciting than other methods of learning, which is why coloring books are an excellent way of learning. Images are also a great way of teaching groups and individual a new language. Since the 1980's, coloring books have been produced for adults. These books were made by publishers who were hoping to facilitate the process of acquiring knowledge on the topics of physiology or anatomy for students on a graduate level.
