What are coloring books?
A coloring book is a book in which images are drawn using lines and which readers can fill up and color by using things such as colorful pencils, pens, crayons or other various types of paint and colours. Kids are the ones who mostly use coloring books, nonetheless, even adults have coloring books. These coloring books, and coloring pages and sheets are usually printed out on paper or cardboard, and some books are made so that each page can be removed from the book once it is finished and used as a stand-alone coloring page. The History of Coloring Books
The very first coloring book was made in America. This appearance was part of a process known as the democratization of art. Josh Reynolds, an English artist was the person responsible for this process. The other two educators who aided this process were Johann Pestalozzi from Switzerland and the German Friedrich Fröbel who was his student. Instructors from all over agreed that an education in the arts was essential in developing cognitive skills and enhancing peoples' perception of the world. Spiritual, social and mental growth are all enhanced in children who take part in artistic activities.
Coloring books were the invention of the McLoughlin Brothers. In the 1880’s they created a coloring book called The Little Folk’s Painting Book. For this book, they worked with a lady called Kate Greenway, and they kept making coloring books until the 1920's. That is when Brothers McLoughlin joined up with the Milton Bradley firm. Richard Outcault is another man who really helped the progression of the coloring book. In 1907, Richard created a coloring book called Buster's Paint Book which was based on a character he had created in 1902 named Buster Brown. The publication of this book was the impetus that gave companies the idea of using coloring books for advertising purposes. These books were initially made to be painted instead of being colored, and despite the emergence and popularity of crayons in the 1930’s, this did not change.
How Coloring Books Are Used in Schools and Kindergartens
These days coloring books are commonly used in schools for teaching little children about different things. From alphabets to numbers you can find coloring books concerning every topic. Small children find these books easy and more engaging than other ways of learning as images are easier to remember and memorize compared to only words. Images are also a great way of teaching groups and individual a new language. Images are also a fantastic way to enhance and improve memory, and to assist in the understanding of certain subject areas like geometry and astronomy. Coloring books for adults and graduate level students have been created since the 1980’s by large publishers who aimed to focus on these groups and educate them on physiology and anatomy, as these images with different colors facilitated learning and memorizing also.
