The meaning of Coloring Books together with their Uses


Coloring books contain images designed to be filled and colored by using several tools such as pencil, crayons and sharpies. While most coloring books are designed for kids, there are numerous that are designed for adults. These coloring books, and coloring pages and sheets are generally printed out on paper or cardboard, and some books are produced so that each page can be detached from the book once it is finished and used as a stand-alone coloring page. In the case where they pages of the coloring book have a sequence or tell a story, they can't be torn out or used as stand-alone pages because that would ruin the story. The History of Coloring Books

The 1st coloring book was created in America. The primary reason for the emergence of coloring books and pages was the process of democratizing art. The man behind this process was an artist from England called Josh Reynolds. The other two educators who helped this process were Johann Pestalozzi from Switzerland and the German Friedrich Fröbel who was his student. Instructors from all over agreed that an education in the arts was essential in developing cognitive skills and enhancing peoples' perception of the world. Education in art also facilitated a person’s ability to develop skills essential down the road, particularly those relating to finding a suitable future job. Educators assert that kids who take part in art education can be expected to develop emotionally, mentally, spiritually and also socially.


The McLoughlin brothers are the two people who invented the coloring book. 'The Little Folk's Painting Book' was the 1st coloring book made by them in the 1880's. For this book, they worked with a lady called Kate Greenway, and they kept making coloring books until the 1920's. Next, the McLoughlin Brothers became part of the Milton Bradley company. Richard Outcault is another essential figure in the history of coloring books. Richard wrote a coloring book in 1907 called Buster’s Paint Book which included a character he had created in 1902 called Buster Brown. This book is what started the process of companies using coloring books as a means for advertising their products. The first coloring books were made with the thought that they should be painted and not colored, and despite the growing popularity of crayons in the 1930's, there was no change in this approach.


The Uses of Coloring Books in Education

Coloring books are considered great tools for teaching small children a lot of things, which is why they can be commonly found in schools and classrooms. From alphabets to numbers you can find coloring books concerning every topic. When children are young, just memorizing words can be slightly boring and challenging when compared to coloring pictures and associating those pictures with new terminology. This is why coloring books are such an engaging way of teaching kids about things. It is a known fact that connecting words with images is a fast way of helping people acquire a new language. As well as using images to expand people's familiarity with certain topics like geometry, which require visual assistance to help understand the theories. Since the 1980's, coloring books have been produced for adults. These books were made by publishers who were hoping to facilitate the process of acquiring knowledge on the topics of physiology or anatomy for students on a graduate level. As mentioned before, these images made memorizing and recollecting the information easier.
