The meaning of Coloring Books together with their Uses


Little children are the ones who generally use coloring books, but of course, even adults have coloring books. Coloring books and coloring pages are designed on cardboard sheets or papers. Some of the coloring pages can be bought individually or can be torn off from the coloring books that are designed to permit that. In the case where they pages of the coloring book have a sequence or tell a story, they can't be torn out or used as stand-alone pages because that would ruin the story. These days, it's very common to find coloring books of really popular cartoon characters or stories, such as The Little Mermaid Coloring Pages or My Little Pony Coloring Pages. Naturally, these coloring books are used by big companies as a way of advertising these new cartoons or their other products. Coloring is not the only activity that can be found in coloring books, as other activities include mazes, numbers, and lots of fun puzzles. The History of Coloring Books

The USA is the origin and birthplace of coloring books. The reason behind the emergence of coloring books and pages was the process of democratizing art. The man behind this process was an artist from England called Josh Reynolds. Friedrich Fröbel from Germany and his Swiss teacher, Johann Pestalozzi assisted in inspiring this process. Educators from different backgrounds were in agreement that artistic education was beneficial to all because it developed cognitive abilities, and improved peoples’ comprehension of tangible things. The skills that a person develops in art education as a kid are certainly likely to prove very useful in his future as an adult. He might even end up finding his passion in life or a career resulting from developing an early artistic skill. Spiritual, social and mental growth are all enhanced in small children who partake in artistic activities.


The inventors of the coloring book are the McLoughlin Brothers. 'The Little Folk's Painting Book' was the very first coloring book made by them in the 1880's. They collaborated with Kate Greenway on this project and the continued to publish coloring books well into the 1920’s. And then, the McLoughlin Brothers became part of the Milton Bradley company. Richard Outcault is another primary figure in the history of coloring books. A coloring book called Buster's Paint Book was written by Richard in 1907. He had created a character in 1902 called Buster Brown, and this coloring book he made was based on this character. The publication of this book was the push that gave companies the idea of using coloring books for advertising purposes. The first coloring books were made with the thought that they should be painted and not colored, and despite the growing popularity of crayons in the 1930's, there was no change in this approach.


The Uses of Coloring Books in Education

Coloring books are considered great tools for teaching youngsters a lot of things, which is why they can be commonly found in schools and classrooms. From alphabets to numbers you can find coloring books concerning every topic. Small children find these books easy and more engaging than other ways of learning as images are easier to remember and memorize compared to only words. Learning words through pictures is a superb way of facilitating language learn in non-native speakers also. Images are also a wonderful way to enhance and improve memory, and to assist in the understanding of certain topics like geometry and astronomy. Big publishers have been creating coloring books that target adults since the 1980's. These books were directed at graduate students of anatomy and physiology to make their learning experience better.
