Coloring Books - What Are They?
Coloring books contain drawings produced to be filled and colored utilizing a variety of tools such as pencil, crayons and sharpies. These coloring books, and coloring pages and sheets are ordinarily printed out on paper or cardboard, and some books are manufactured so that each page can be detached from the book once it is completed and used as a stand-alone coloring page. Coloring Book- The History
Coloring books first appeared in the US. A process called the democratization of art was responsible for the birth of coloring books. The person who inspired this process was an English artist named Josh Reynolds. The artistic works of Johann Pestalozzi who was an educator from Switzerland and Friedrich Fröbel who was a German pupil of his, also inspired this process. Instructors from all over agreed that an education in the arts was essential in developing cognitive skills and enhancing peoples' perception of the world. Education in art also facilitated a person’s ability to develop skills essential down the road, particularly relating to finding a suitable future job. Educators assert that youngsters who participate in art education can be expected to develop emotionally, mentally, spiritually and also socially.
Coloring books were the invention of the McLoughlin Brothers. The 'Little Folk's Painting Book was the McLoughlin Brother's first coloring book, and they made it in the 1880's. They collaborated with Kate Greenway on this project and the continued to publish coloring books well into the 1920’s. Next, the McLoughlin Brothers became part of the Milton Bradley company. Richard Outcault is another man who really helped the progression of the coloring book. Richard wrote a coloring book in 1907 called Buster’s Paint Book which included a character he had created in 1902 called Buster Brown. The publication of Buster's Paint Book made companies realize what a good idea it would be to use coloring books as a tool for advertising theirs good. Thus, advertising through the use of coloring books and pages started. These books were initially made to be painted instead of being colored, and despite the emergence and popularity of crayons in the 1930’s, this did not change.
How Coloring Books Are Used in Schools and Kindergartens
These days coloring books are commonly used in schools for teaching youngsters about different things. Coloring books covering endless topics can be found, such as numbers, animal names, and names of cities and continents. Images are easier to recall for children, and coloring them is more exciting than other methods of learning, which is why coloring books are an excellent way of learning. Images are also a great way of teaching groups and individual a new language. Not to mention using images to expand people's familiarity with certain topics like geometry, which require graphic assistance to help understand the theories. Big publishers have been creating coloring books that target adults since the 1980's. These books were directed at graduate students of anatomy and physiology to make their learning experience better.
