The meaning of Coloring Books along with their Uses
A coloring book is a book that features outlines, images and drawings which readers can paint and color implementing things like colouring sticks, crayons and pens, etc. While most coloring books are meant for youngsters, there are numerous that are intended for adults. These coloring books, and coloring pages and sheets are ordinarily printed out on paper or cardboard, and some books are made so that each page can be detached from the book once it is finished and used as a stand-alone coloring page. In the case where they pages of the coloring book have a sequence or tell a story, they can't be torn out or used as stand-alone pages because that would ruin the story. Naturally, these coloring books are used by big companies as a way of advertising these new cartoons or their other products. Coloring Books History
The first coloring book was produced in America. This appearance was part of a process called the democratization of art. Josh Reynolds, an English artist was the person responsible for this process. The artistic works of Johann Pestalozzi who was an educator from Switzerland and Friedrich Fröbel who was a German pupil of his, also inspired this process. Educators from different backgrounds were in agreement that artistic education was helpful to all because it developed cognitive abilities, and improved peoples’ knowledge of tangible things. The skills that a person develops in art education as a kid are very likely to prove particularly useful in his future as an adult. He might even end up finding his passion in life or a career resulting from developing an early artistic skill. As far as children were concerned, many educators found that art played a part in a child’s mental and spiritual growth.
Coloring books were the innovation of the McLoughlin Brothers. 'The Little Folk's Painting Book' was the earliest coloring book made by them in the 1880's. They collaborated with Kate Greenway on this project and the continued to publish coloring books well into the 1920’s. It was then that the McLoughlins joined the Milton Bradley firm. Another man credited for the progress of coloring books is Richard Outcault. In 1907, Richard created a coloring book called Buster's Paint Book which was based on a character he had created in 1902 named Buster Brown. The publication of this book was the push that gave companies the idea of using coloring books for advertising purposes. The first coloring books were made with the thought that they should be painted and not colored, and despite the growing popularity of crayons in the 1930's, there was no change in this approach.
Educational Uses of Coloring Books
These days coloring books are commonly used in schools for teaching little children about different things. From alphabets to numbers you can find coloring books concerning every topic. Images are easier to recall for kids, and coloring them is more exciting than other methods of learning, which is why coloring books are an excellent way of learning. Images are also a great way of teaching groups and individual a new language. Images are also a powerful way to enhance and improve memory, and to assist in the understanding of certain subject areas like geometry and astronomy. Since the 1980's, coloring books have been produced for adults. These books were made by publishers who were hoping to facilitate the process of acquiring knowledge on the topics of physiology or anatomy for students on a graduate level. As mentioned before, these images made memorizing and remembering the information easier.
