The meaning of Coloring Books along with their Uses

A coloring book is a book in which images are drawn using outlines and which readers can fill and colour by making use of things like colorful pencils, pens, crayons and other different kinds of paint and colours. These coloring books, and coloring pages and sheets are traditionally printed out on paper or cardboard, and some books are fashioned so that each page can be detached from the book once it is finished and used as a stand-alone coloring page. Many coloring books have a distinct theme or tell a story, which means the pages can't be torn out them or the book loses its purpose. These days, it's very common to find coloring books of really popular cartoon characters or stories, such as The Little Mermaid Coloring Pages or My Little Pony Coloring Pages. Naturally, these coloring books are used by big companies as a way of advertising these new cartoons or their other products. Lots of other fun activities can be found in children’s coloring books, like number games, mazes, connecting the dots and of course puzzles. Another type of activity includes coloring books that come with stickers that can be attached on certain pages on these books.

Coloring Book- The History

The very first coloring book was produced in America. The actual cause of the emergence of coloring books and pages was the process of democratizing art. The person who prompted this process was an English artist named Josh Reynolds. The artistic works of Johann Pestalozzi who was an educator from Switzerland and Friedrich Fröbel who was a German pupil of his, also inspired this process. Educators from different backgrounds were in agreement that artistic education was helpful to all because it developed cognitive abilities, and enhanced peoples’ understanding of tangible things. The skills that a person develops in art education as a kid are very likely to prove incredibly useful in his future as an adult. He may even end up finding his passion in life or a career as a consequence of developing an early artistic skill. Educators assert that young children who get involved in art education can be expected to develop emotionally, mentally, spiritually and also socially.

The inventors of the coloring book are the McLoughlin Brothers. The 'Little Folk's Painting Book was the McLoughlin Brother's first coloring book, and they made it in the 1880's. For this book, they worked with a lady called Kate Greenway, and they kept making coloring books until the 1920's. That is when Brothers McLoughlin joined up with the Milton Bradley firm. Another man credited for the progress of coloring books is Richard Outcault. A coloring book called Buster's Paint Book was written by Richard in 1907. He had created a character in 1902 called Buster Brown, and this coloring book he made was based on this character. The publication of this book was the inspiration that gave companies the idea of using coloring books for advertising purposes. These books were initially made to be painted instead of being colored, and despite the emergence and popularity of crayons in the 1930’s, this did not change.

How Coloring Books Are Used in Schools and Kindergartens

Coloring books are considered great tools for teaching young children a lot of things, which is why they can be commonly found in schools and classrooms. The topics for coloring books cover everything under the sun, like flowers, cartoons, alphabets, and even fruits and vegetables. Images are easier to recall for small children, and coloring them is more exciting than other methods of learning, which is why coloring books are an excellent way of learning. Images are also a great way of teaching groups and individual a new language. Images are also a fantastic way to enhance and improve memory, and to assist in the understanding of certain subjects like geometry and astronomy. Large publishers have been creating coloring books that target adults since the 1980's. These books were directed at graduate students of anatomy and physiology to make their learning experience better.
